Have you ever noticed that most people like to talk but rarely like to listen? Some people can ramble for hours in a row about how great they are or something similar. It’s even more fun when some people suddenly turn the conversation in such a way that they’re in their field of expertise. Well, not their field of expertise but something they know more about than most people. That’s when they’ll start to shoot all their knowledge away and even repeat it multiple times to make sure that others have heard it. It’s just a sign that these people have a giant ego and they need to feed it. But I know what most people will say right now. “Alex, isn’t that the case for your blog as well?”
Talk less and listen a lot more.
The joke is that this isn’t the case for my blog and the reason why is pretty simple. I don’t claim to be an expert in anything. I’m not afraid to challenge my beliefs. This blog is just a way to share my ideas on certain topics. They might be right and wrong. I don’t care. There might be even blogs that contradict each other because I changed my beliefs. Anyway, let’s take a look at why you should talk a lot less.
Talk less and listen a lot more.
You can only talk about things that you know or at least pretend to know. Some people will already get where I’m heading but I’ll explain it anyway. You can’t learn if you’re talking all the time about things which you know. You’re so full of yourself that you want to impress people all the time with stuff that they might not even be interested in. Those people will just endure that whole lecture because they want to be polite. People would ask you about topics that you know if they were interested in it. Your big ego might not be able to handle this but that’s how it is.
Talk less and listen a lot more.
Most people are great at small talking all the time. They talk about the weather, maybe some television show and the news for hours in a row. So now you’ve got to realize that you can only talk about things that they know… You can draw your conclusions from here. To the people who don’t get it: why don’t you read some more books? I might give you some stuff to think about and stuff to reflect on with other people.
Talk less and listen more. That’s it.
