I remember the first time I ever heard of Eddie Abasolo. It was in a FightTips video where he was giving a demo (you can check the video out here). Back then he was an unknown Muay Thai fighter for me because I didn’t follow the scene at all. Shane Fazen mentioned that he was always looking forward to Eddie’s new Instagram posts because he had such a unique training routine (you can follow him here). That got me curious so I started following him and I quickly discovered what Shane meant. His training routine was pretty unique but so was his fighting style. He’s a trickster of the highest level and guess what I try to achieve when I fight. Being tricky as well (hit and not getting hit). Because in the end people love brawls, the love blood but they get on the edge of their seat when tricksters enter the ring. Their movement is like a dance, it’s poetry in motion and all of them have a style unique to their own.
His fight with PJ Sweda is still one of my favorite fights and I watch it on fight day since my very first fight. You can watch it here.
But there’s more to it. Eddie Abasolo has a unique perspective on life. It’s similar to Kevin Ross his view (check out my podcast with Kevin Ross here). It’s ‘same same but different’ as they would say in Thailand. Eddie comes from a place of poverty and addiction and never intended to be a pro fighter. It’s just happened and he happens to be very good at it. What most people don’t know is that Eddie started pretty late and showed up intoxicated in training in the beginning. He eventually took things seriously and turned pro at the age of 27. Age is a number. What is your excuse?!
This podcast is a combination of Eddie Abasolo’s view on life and on striking. Something that most people miss out on since they only know him as a Muay Thai fighter.
I also would recommend this podcast which focused a bit more on Eddie Abasolo’s view on life.
What you need to know before you become SilkEsmooth with Eddie Abasolo.
At one point I assumed I was done with the Zero To Alpha podcast because I didn’t enjoy the process of it. Interviewing people is a lot of fun but I hated everything else. That’s why I decided to not pack my podcast gear when I left Belgium in September. By then I had an unreleased podcast with Kevin Ross and I had Eddie who had agreed to be on the podcast. I decided to stick to the podcast one more time because of Eddie’s interesting mindset. This podcast was recorded in Chiang Mai, where the internet was horrible so sometimes you’ll notice that the audio on my part isn’t the best. I tried to edit it as much as possible to make sure that the interview is still enjoyable.
That being said, this might be the last podcast that I ever release. It’s either that or one more with Eddie Abasolo, we’ll see what the future brings. But for now, I’m saying goodbye to the podcast game.
Don’t forget to check out my last book which contains 366 life lessons that’ll take your life from Zero To Alpha (you can buy it here).
