Religion and philosophy: scam or misunderstood?

Let’s talk about religion and philosophy over here. It’s a subject that isn’t that popular anymore these days since most people claim that they’re non- believers. I’m sure that it’s safe to say that most people don’t have the slightest clue about what they believe. Religion and philosophy make you think about the meaning of life but also about your own life, norms and values. Most people have no values and norms anymore. So that’s kind of a problem, isn’t it? Both religion and philosophy keep your mind sharp. I can’t imagine a day where I would read something that sharpens my mind.

But what happens to the people who stop sharpening their minds? They turn into hateful, whiny persons like the majority of the people.

I’m not bound to one religion, in particular, to be honest. I’ve been baptized but l wasn’t a real believer like most people. Religion wasn’t for the cool kids. I turned atheist after a while in my darkest period. Now I’m reading a lot about these matters. I didn’t want to choose one religion in particular because they all have things in common and most people think that theirs is better than all the others. Those people treat religion like a soccer game between rivals. Those people don’t get religion. I don’t want that kind of bullshit on my blog since it leads to racism and that’s an act of cowardice.

Religion and philosophy: forgotten but why?

Philosophy is a course in college but most students hate it. It’s tough to get the true understanding of all these theories but binge-watching your favorite shows aren’t going to make you smarter. Why don’t you read a book about philosophy? Meditations is a great book full of wisdom but I still don’t get everything and I’ve read it 5 times by now. Some parts are really hard to understand especially the religious parts. But in the end, I’ll keep on reading it at least 3 times a year to keep my mind sharp.

Philosophy keeps on evolving to make sure that it fits in in our modern-day society. Allan Watts is a great philosopher who shared some pretty great insights about life and other stuff that’s still applicable today.

But what about religion?

I’m going to talk about Christianity here but I’m sure that this will be the case for most religions. Christianity didn’t evolve that much in my eyes and most people approach it in a completely wrong way. In primary school, teachers read parts of the bible like they were kids’ stories. Many kids get bored by it since the stories were always the same. I’m seriously doubting that most teachers are capable of understanding some parts of the bible. Religion will have to evolve if it wants to survive but the consequences are worse than most people even realize.

Churches are getting used to store food these days since they aren’t used anymore n the end only the elderly still go to church and even some of them have lost faith. Here in Belgium, there were several cases of child abuse by priests so people started to avoid church.

We lost all our values and norms

A lot has changed these days but the values and norm didn’t become better. Humanity is getting tons of achievements but they all forget the part of self- development. Why should you meditate if you can play a game on your smartphone? Why would you read if you can binge-watch movies and shows all day?. Most people just want to take as much as possible but forget about the fact that life is all about giving back.

I was sick of following the herd so I got out.

I even stopped drinking alcohol (you can read here why).

Some people are starting to realize that religion or philosophy is an answer to a lot of things. I’ve met more people who were atheists in the past. Suddenly they started believing again. People throw tons of money into therapy while the answer is already in their head.

But I genially believe that there has to be something or someone. You can read all about it in my post about the meaning of life.

My grandfather is right when he told that his generation builds up society again after the war. But our generation is ruining it. He’s 84 and it’s not the first time that he told this to others. He’s right in my opinion.

Abandoning religion can make you selfish

I won’t claim that you’ve got to follow a certain religion but you’ve got to develop some spirituality to get more out of life. People can’t talk anymore these days. They’re all holding on to their so precious egos. Forgiveness used to be a well- known word but not in these days and age. People can’t forgive anymore. They’re stuck in their heads while they try to communicate. I’m seriously doubting that this will become better although there is hope for some people.

There’s just no hope for the social media zombies.

We’re becoming weak mentally and physically

We’re getting to a point where we’re evolving in a lazy bum society full of pussies and cowards. I’m pretty sure that there are guys who aren’t able to do a single push up. They don’t do a temporary job during vacations to make some extra money, they don’t read… So what do they do? They’re just bored and wander around.

Most people can’t handle adversity anymore. They become paralyzed when they hear the word failure (read here how you should deal with failure). Some of them can’t even handle rejection. Maybe some of these life lessons will be able to help you.

There are more and more childless 40-year-olds who’re either an alcoholic, drug addict or both. They treat life as a party and don’t give anything back. They’re just using up all the available oxygen. But that’s it, they’re just waiting to die. The sad part is that the younger generation is going in the same direction. Those people feel cheated by life.

The quick fix mentality

They’re all looking for the quick fix but there is no such thing as a quick fix. You need to change your whole mentality. You can’t drink or sniff your problems away. How can you expect it to work? Doesn’t it create more problems? You need to face them and some people will get courage from praying.

Just look at how people deal with some of their problems. Couples go on a vacation to sort things out. It works until they get back home, back to reality. They’ll separate 3 months later. Others go traveling a lot just to learn who they are. Do you need a trip to do that? Are you sure? You won’t practice a lot of self- development in a sunny country with a beach. Maybe it’s time to face your inner demons or problems?!

So religion and philosophy a scam? I don’t think so.

Great article man and very unbiased. I’m obviously a Christian if you read my merry Christmas article. You should go back and re read those old bible stories they read to you in primary school now that you’re an adult. You’ll find that all of these guys they talked about like heroes when they taught kids were merely humans like you and I and had many struggles. But they kept their heads held high in the face of adversity and trusted in God despite their own faults. Very interesting stuff if you get a chance to go back! Even Jesus dealt with temptation the only difference is he never gave in.
