Eddie Abasolo

ZTA podcast #38:Eddie Abasolo’s unique training methods.

By | Podcast | No Comments

I remember the first time I ever heard of Eddie Abasolo. It was in a FightTips video where he was giving a demo (you can check the video out here). Back then he was an unknown Muay Thai fighter for me because I didn’t follow the scene at all. Shane Fazen mentioned that he was always looking forward to Eddie’s new Instagram posts because he had such a unique training routine (you can follow him here). That got me curious so I started following him and I quickly discovered what Shane meant. His training routine was pretty unique but so was his fighting style. He’s a trickster of the highest level and, guess what I try to achieve when I fight. Being tricky as well (hit and not getting hit). Because in the end people love brawls, the love blood but they get on the edge of their seat when tricksters enter the ring. Their movement is like a dance, it’s poetry in motion and all of them have a style unique to their own.

His fight with PJ Sweda is still one of my favorite fights and I watch it on fight day since my very first fight. You can watch it here. Read More

ZTA podcast #36: Quarantine Topic Talk With Ognjen Topic

By | Podcast | No Comments

Ognjen Topic is a Serbian-born American Muay Thai fighter. He has fought some of the best fighters in the game (Saenchai,  Saemapetch Fairtex,…). He’s also one of the few foreigners that compete in the legendary Lumpinee- and Radjadamnern stadium. Aside from that, he holds multiple prestigious titles and fights for One Championship as well. That is already pretty impressive but there is more than just being a fighter to Ognjen Topic of course. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have invited him on the podcast. His mindset is pretty interesting. Just listen to his TopicTalk with Kevin Ross (a previous guest on the podcast) or my first podcast with Ognjen Topic (listen to it here).

That being said, enjoy the podcast with Ognjen!

ZTA podcast #35: A Change Of Perspective With Ed Latimore

By | Podcast | No Comments

In my latest podcast, I had the honor to have Ed Latimore as a guest. He’s the author of one of my favorite books “Not Caring What Other People Think Is A Superpower“. (buy it here) It’s hard to describe him because it feels like I’m describing more than one person, he’s achieved a lot in his 35 years on this planet. He’s a retired professional boxer, a former member of the US National Guard, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physics in 2018 (at 33) from Duquesne University,  Amazon bestselling author, and public speaker. He’s also been sober since December 23, 2013. I think it’s safe to say that Ed is the perfect example to show people that it’s never too late to start something new. Read More

motivation

A message for the unmotivated

By | Motivation | No Comments

Why does everyone need motivation books and videos?

Why does everyone lack so much motivation for everything they do?

You either want it or don’t. Really that simple.

You have time to go to the gym today, iyou have time to buy a book online and; wait for X amount of days to then read it for X amount of time.

Like seriously, you waste the time you wait + the time you read, and; you still get nothing done.

You seem more motivated than me if you can wait that long to get started.

get shit done though, so heres a piece of unwanted advice for the less-motivated.

Don’t order the book, it’s going to collect dust on the shelf anyways.

You’re never going to start what you wanted to do because you’re going to order another bullshit book or watch another 10-minute video with a cool soundtrack.

Just get off your ass, grow up, do what you need to do, and stop wasting your money on these idiot gurus.

That’s all the motivation you need.

Till next time

Alex

Don Heatrick

ZTA Podcast #34: S&C, Muay Thai And The Story Of Don Heatrick

By | Podcast | No Comments

Don Heatrick is a strength and conditioning coach who’s well know in the Muay Thai world. He’s also my strength and conditioning coach. A fun fact is that we’ve never met in real life or even talked to each other for a longer period of time. After dabbling on the idea of getting him the podcast, I finally reached out and the date was set. This is a 2-hour podcast where we dive into Don’s story, the reason why he structures his programs in 4 phases, why Thai fighters are not necessarily the best athletes, the mindset that goes into fighting, how to improve your mindset and so on. Enjoy! Read More

life

The reality of life, go all out.

By | Motivation | No Comments

I’d have never sat on this spot if I didn’t go all out.

I’d probably never fought if I didn’t go all out since I was almost done with the sport (too many horrible coaches and pretenders in this game).

Did I take a risk? Absolutely.

Was it hard from time to time? Absolutely.

But in the end, fortune favors the bold.

You see, most people face a setback and cry.

I, on the other hand just try.

Trying got me a lot further in life than crying.

Think about that next time you watch a motivational speech or read a motivational self-help book.

That book will make you feel good and collect dust on the shelf as soon as you finish it.

You don’t need any of those. You just need to get after what you want and adapt along the way.

The ones that’ll claim you’re crazy will envy your life down the line.

Action, just like inaction, has a price.

That is what we call, the reality of life.

One that only a few are willing to face.

Till next time

zinc

Is a zinc deficiency ruining your health?!

By | Testosterone | No Comments

This post about zinc was written back in 2016 when I was still lifting weight rather than training to fight. I was wondering for a while what I was going to write about since my departure from the self-development industry (you can read all about it here: part 1, part 2, and part 3). It quickly struck me that I have a lot of knowledge about nutrition, training,… My main conclusion was that I can solve people’s problems when it comes to low- testosterone, fat loss, muscle building,… I might as well put it to use. So without further ado, here’s how since can boost your testosterone and improve your sleep. Read More

heaven and hell

The reality of heaven and hell.

By | Motivation | No Comments

Heaven and hell are concepts often linked to religion. For good reason, of course. We all know the good old saying: Good people go to heaven and, bad people go to hell. It seems comprehensible and, obviously, some people monetized these concepts back in the days. People could pay off the priests back in the days to get rid of their sins to enter heaven. That lead to the fact that people didn’t accept both concepts anymore. But what if heaven and hell are real? Just not in the way we’ve been told? What if heaven and hell are places on earth? What if heaven and hell represent a state of mind?!

Let‘s dive in.

By | Motivation | No Comments

Welcome to the third and last part of the “is the self-development industry a scam”. Be sure to check out the first  (you can read it here) and second post (you can read it here) before you read this one. In the previous post, we ended by giving you a sneak peek of what you can expect in this post. So as promised, today we’ll cover:

  • Talking about people who claim it’s all about the journey.
  • The one time I got in a small Twitter beef with an online guru.
  • Psychedelics: good or bad.
  • How do you actually change your life?
