Martial arts: a new way of approaching life

The title is a bit confusing isn’t it? I do MMA like most of you know or don’t know. This is the greatest sport there is in my opinion. It’s the purest sport there is since there are only 2 options: you either win or learn. Well only if you’ve got the right mindset. This sport isn’t for everybody that’s for sure. But martial arts are more than MMA on its own. I did 5 years karate back in the days and I learned a lot from that sport. You get so much discipline from doing martial arts and it’s a great way to get out of your comfort zone. You’ll get your ass whooped during the first weeks. You learn to be humble but there’s a lot more which you can learn.

Take Bruce Lee’s approach to martial arts

Bruce Lee his quote about water is a world-famous one but most people don’t get it. You have to empty your mind to become like water. He tells you to be water and not to be like water. You’ll gain a lot more in life if you take this approach. An empty mind is so damn great. You’ll be able to focus on a lot more things instead of focusing on all the self- doubts you’ve got.

So how do you get this state of mind? Meditation with Binaural Beats & Iso Tones (you’ll need some quality headphones to do this). Just set up the timer and take 10 to 20 minutes to meditate.

Don’t forget to put on the beats and to close your eyes. Start to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Just keep on repeating this but don’t quit when thoughts pop up in your mind. Don’t be surprised if this occurs in the beginning, it’s natural since most people their mind never rest. I mostly visualize some MMA moves but after a  while, they pass by. My mind becomes blank and I get such a weird feeling. It’s so relaxing. It’s like I’m floating in outer space. So, in the end, you become like water. Water is calm and still.

You might think I’m crazy but I go into this state when I spar even when I’m under a lot of pressure. Most people freak out but I am and remain like water.

I use these headphones from Sony and they’re the best ones I’ve ever had.

Another more expensive option are these from Bose.

They’re both noise-canceling headphones which will make sure that you remain focused.

Most people need to do this in life

I’ve seen people completely freak out in traffic when they were only waiting for 3 seconds. They are more like a storm than like water. They freak over dumb things and they have nothing to do or nowhere to go. Kickstart your day the right way (this blog will open your eyes). Be calm and accept the fact that you’re stuck in traffic. You won’t change the traffic by freaking out, you’ll only change your state of mind to a negative one. It’s so dumb to do it and still many people do it. Read meditations, Marcus Aurelius had a lot more wisdom to offer than most people these days.

Martial arts and the belt: status means nothing

You start as a white belt in life but you’ll gain more and more experience and you’ll get up in the ranks. You’ll get degrees, achieve other things and so on. Some people suddenly get satisfied and stop learning and that means that you’ll stop living. It’s done. It’s over. Face it you’ve just made a terrible mistake. The white belt mentality is the best one there is since you’re always able to learn. White belts are almost always the most curious ones in the dojo.

It’s best that you remain following this approach in life but also in relations. Most people get satisfied as well. They assume that their better half won’t leave them even if they do less effort. So you need to act before the relation gets in a rut.

Wake up every day with the assumption that it’s your first date. You’ll do a lot more effort and this will pay off when the times get tough. You need to accept the fact that almost every relationship goes to a point you’ll face a little crisis. Only the smart ones will survive it all the others will do crazy stupid shit because they’re unhappy.

Martial arts and life are a great combo

Martial arts seem to have lost popularity over time because most people can’t handle the pain and effort that comes with it. They think that martial arts lost their value in this modern society. Those people are way too tired to be active once they finished their job but that a big mistake.

But you need to see the beauty of all martial arts. You’ll learn a lot if you take this approach. You’ll lose the bad attitude and you’ll learn to control your ego. In this way, you’ll gain more in life than most other people and that’s what we’re all about at Zero To Alpha. The martial arts way is the one that will get you out of your comfort zone.

It’s doing what you love and love what you do in life. I like to kick ass and do martial arts. So what about you?
