Why you shouldn’t talk about your goals too much.

We all have goals in life right? Well, we all assume that we have goals, to be honest. Most people claim to have them but they hardly ever get anything done. But all the people who get rarely anything done have a thing in common. They’re pretty vocal about what they want. It’s like the only thing they can talk about. I’m gonna do this, this and this and then I’m going to buy that, that and that. There would be a lot of millionaires if all those people would be right. So it’s safe to say that they go somewhere wrong, don’t they? I think that they just try to impress others because everybody is drawn to ambitious people right? Who wouldn’t want to be around a high achiever? Those people are always full of energy.

But there’s a difference between a high achiever or someone who’s going to be one and a fake guy who wants to impress people.

Why you shouldn’t talk about your goals too much.

So imagine that you’ve got a goal. Are you sure that you want it? It’s a long grueling patience game where a lot of people quit somewhere along the journey. Have you ever considered how much work you’ve got to put in? It’s easy to focus on the fun stuff like the money and the fame but you neglect the most important stuff and that’s how you get there, all the failures and the setbacks and so on… But somehow people convince themselves that they’re going get through it. So they start being vocal about what they want. They tell it to everybody and those people mostly tend to be impressed but the following week those ambitious people suddenly shift focus because they just didn’t like it.

And this happens the week after and the week after until everybody realizes that these people are just full of shit and probably won’t accomplish a thing.

‘Probably’ is the right word since some people change their lives and make something happen. That’s only a small percentage though. Most people can’t change their lives for the better.

So why are people so vocal about their goals?

I think that they just want to convince themselves because they realize deep down inside that they can’t do it. Achieving a goal requires laser focus. You just can’t second guess yourself the whole time or you’re done. And that’s the thing, people tend to second guess a lot. They dabble between duties and distractions. Do I work on Friday night or do I go out and go all out? Do I get up early or do I keep on snoozing? These are all small things that shape your future. It might not seem like a lot at the moment but it ends up being big in the end. You are what you repeatedly do is a saying for a reason.

Those people just don’t have their priorities straight. You either work for it or you don’t. There’s no middle road. There’s no but this or that. There is no “I didn’t work today but I’ll surely work tomorrow”. Please explain to me why you would work tomorrow if you didn’t even work today! There is no such thing as the perfect time or perfect Monday.

All those excuses will make sure that you never achieve a single thing. They will make sure that you never achieve a single thing as a person.

So you can’t be vocal about it?

I wouldn’t talk too much about it when you start pursuing your goal. Just start working towards it and people will notice it. Even then I wouldn’t talk too much about it. Maybe with close friends or people that you trust but that’s it. Just don’t shout it from the rooftops.

You might feel on top of the world when you do it but you might end up like the bottom. That can be a pretty painful realization when you’re old and conscious about the fact that your life is about to end…

In conclusion: your actions define your life, not your hollow words.
