Stop the abuse of the good genetics excuse.

good genetics

Let’s talk about good genetics. Well, we’re not going to devote much time to this matter, to be honest. The reason why is pretty simple. Good genetics only come to play at the highest level and it still doesn’t determine success but it might help. There’s something a lot more important in my opinion and that’s work ethic. But we’re not going to discuss the sports aspect either. We’re going to tackle another aspect. People like to blame good genetics or the lack of it for their results but that’s just bullshit if you ask me. How can you grow as a person if you’re constantly making excuses after you failed? That’s just a waste of that failure if you ask me. You’ll either quit or fail in the same way as you did before until you learn your lesson or quit.

I’ve always been pretty skinny as a kid. I weighed 58 kg (127 pounds) when I was 19 and I’m was and still am 1m74 (5’8). I eventually started doing fitness gained some muscle but I still skinny. Now 6 years later I’m around 70 kg (155 pounds) sometimes I’m a little bit heavier. Smart people will get where this is going but lazy people won’t get it. You see now people either claim that I’ve got either great genetics or use steroids. I mean a guy who’s in shape at the age of 25 has to have good genetics or inject them right? There can’t be another explanation. It’s just impossible! Well, I’ve got some bad news for those people. I don’t have good genetics and I never touched a steroid in my life.

The people who claim stuff like this just want it to be true because this would justify their lazy behavior. That’s just the mindset of our weakminded generation. You just turned into the average hater that doesn’t want other people to be successful. What can I say, every boozer eventually turns into a sore loser.

So why can’t most people get into shape? Well, the answer is pretty easy. You’ll never find your good genetics at your favorite fast-food restaurant eating McCrap. Oh, and you’ll never find good genetics in a bar or club either. Most people indulge so much alcohol and fast food and it doesn’t damage them in the short run but it does damage them in the long run. Oh, don’t forget the hours of just sitting and doing nothing. Instant gratification leads to long-term frustration. Your instant gratification will lead to the fact that you’ll get out of shape in the long run. So now you’re frustrated and deep down inside you know that it’s your fault but you decide to remain full of shit instead of taking action.

I mean how can you expect to be in shape if you train 4 times a year, indulge tons of alcohol, eat nothing but crap and don’t care about your sleep? You would be out of shape even if you had the best genetics in the world. Choices shape your life and your body whether you like it or not and you made a choice. You made the choice so you can’t blame anyone else.

Don’t be cheesy, getting in shape is easy. Just get more active and clean up your diet. Live a healthy and happy lifestyle. Eat your protein, healthy fats, carbs, and veggies. Drink water and get outside. Get moving! The longer you wait, the harder it gets. Your lifestyle will catch up with you so why don’t you live a healthy lifestyle? The choice is yours but I can assure you that you’ll like yourself a lot more when you’re fit.

People who claim that they’ve got good genetics are either full of shit or on steroids.

In conclusion: I have to work hard for a guy with good genetics. That must be the biggest disappointment of the day for you.

Funny thing is – a lot of times when people do actually have good genetics they take them for granted and do nothing with it where as the one who was born the under dog fights harder and kicks ass. You are right… blaming genetics is a cop out.

Great post as always! A lot of people don’t realize that being healthy is a way of life. If you choose to fill your body with bad things, then your life will reflect it. If you choose to not workout and take care of yourself, then you will lack energy, motivation, and desire to do what you want. Appreciate the simple yet effective insight Alex.
