good: the art of turning the odds in your favor

Today we’re going to use one simple word: good. Life challenges you every day and most people want to quit because they can’t handle it anymore.  Most people try to outrun their problems or just don’t seem to be able to turn the odds in their favor. The situation gets worse. From now on you need to say good whenever something bad happens to you. There’s always something good in every bad thing that you need to deal with.

Did you feel like a punching bag in sparring? Good because now you know that your defense wasn’t on point. It’s always better to learn in practice than to learn in the octagon.

Fired after one day at your job? Good, you’ll find a job that suits you better.

Are you suffering from an injury?  Good, your body needed rest anyway.

Just got out of a long term relationship? That’s great because now you can work towards your best self.

The fun part is that you can use this logic in any situation in your life. Just look at the issue and turn it around. Turn something negative into something positive. Learn to deal with failure because that’s what’s life is all about.

Where does this “good” technique come from?

I injured myself 3 weeks ago while I was practicing kicks on the heavy bag. I felt pain in my knee and was worried that I wouldn’t be able to train for a long time. But I was lucky and was able to train two weeks after the incident. I was reading the book Tools Of Titans at the moment and that’s where I read all about it. This book should be read at least once by everybody who’s trying to achieve something in life. Jocko Willink was the one who used this technique. He’s a retired USA navy seal and he’s tough as hell. He gets up at 4:30 am every morning (check out his morning routine here). He’s not a morning person though, he just has a lot of stuff to do. The morning person is a freaking myth.

A lot of people want to get up a lot earlier but they seem to fail every single time. Don’t worry I’ve got you covered. Check out this blogpost if you want to get more out of your day.

He’s also into fitness so I guess he also realized that it can change your whole life and mindset.

So I have to say “good” every time something bad happens?

That’s the only correct thing to do. What else could you do about it? Well besides trying to solve the issue? Will you cry about it? It doesn’t solve a lot, doesn’t it? You’re just wasting precious time. I realized this after I’ve read Meditations (read here on why you should read it). You need to turn the odds in your favor and move on. Just realize that it will be hard from time to time to see something positive in what you’ve encountered.

I couldn’t cope with the fact that I was facing a knee injury. Suddenly I got so much time in a day and I was extremely restless around the time that I usually had to go to training. I hate injuries but they’re just a part of the game. I was looking for a way to turn this situation into something better. It took me about 3 days before I could turn it into something better. I just started writing and reading a lot more.

So what if I’m dealing with depression? Well follow this guide and turn your whole life around.

What if I’m afraid to do something? That’s good, just do it as long if it’s nothing stupid that will harm you.

Are you facing unexpected problems? Good because now you’re able to look for a solution. You’re able to grow as a person. What’s wrong with the fact that you’re able to improve? Why are you afraid to fight? There’s no reason to be afraid. Fight back and fight hard when the times get tough. You need to get tougher when life gets tough.

That’s how we roll here.

Do you feel motivated after reading this post?

Good, now take a look at all your problems.

Get out of your comfort zone.

Crush them one by one and…

Don’t forget to show what you’re made off.

Do it before you become extremely unhappy. Make every second of the day count. Do it before it’s too late. You only get one ticket to take the ride and today is the youngest that you’ll ever be.

Food for thought isn’t it?
