Ginger is the second herb that I link to hormonal and overall health. Do you want to be a powerhouse? I suggest you check out this post real quick than.

Tea for two, please

Ginger is another extremely cheap herb that you can buy for a bang and a buck. In the past, I already wrote about the relationship between stress and testosterone but also about the relation between porn and testosterone.

I recently talked about turmeric and all the benefits that you can expect from this herb. Turmeric is a part of the ginger family so it’s more than logical that I divide a whole post to ginger as well. Will this herb turn you into a powerhouse as well? Will it turn out as another overlooked herb in our modern-day society?

It’s is not as strong as turmeric but it still has a lot of benefits.

Ginger and its benefits to overall health

It has powerful medical properties

Ginger is used in various forms of medicine for a very long time. It’s useful for digestion, fighting the flu, fighting colds and so on.

There are different forms of ginger. You can use it fresh, dried, powdered, as an oil or juice. Ginger thanks its unique flavor to natural oils. But there’s one oil that’s extremely important and that’s gingerol. Gingerol is the main bioactive compound in ginger and it’s responsible for much of its medicinal properties. Ginger has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidants effects.

So it’s safe to say that ginger is a natural painkiller.

It can reduce muscle pain and soreness

Ginger helps with muscle pain due to exercise according to science.

Consuming 2 grams for a period of 11 days had a significant effect on muscle pain in people who performed elbow exercises.

It will not make the muscle pain disappear at once but it can reduce day to day progression. This could be extremely handy after a leg day if you ask me.

It has anti-inflammatory effects can help with Osteoarthritis

Osteo what? Osteoarthritis is a common health problem. It’s a type of joint disease that results from the breakdown of joint cartilage and underlying bone. This will result in joint pain and stiffness.

They study a group of 247 who suffered from osteoarthritis at the knee. The ones who took ginger extract not only had less pain but also required less pain medication.

It May Lower Cholesterol Levels

I’ve found two studies that showed that ginger can affect your cholesterol in a good way.

Note that this won’t work if you’re eating fast food all day. Fast food won’t make you Wolvelean and you’ll never have the same benefits as me caused by the high testosterone levels.

85 test subjects, with high cholesterol, were given 3 grams of ginger powder for a period of 45 days. This caused a significant reduction in most cholesterol markers.

They found the same result in the second study. They compared ginger extract to the cholesterol-lowering drug atorvastatin and found out that ginger had the same effect on LDL cholesterol. Furthermore, they noted a reduction in total cholesterol and blood triglycerides.

I‘ve should have bought ginger by now.

It contains a substance that may help prevent cancer

Cancer explained

Cancer is one of the most prominent and deadliest diseases in our day and age. this disease is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells. It’s basically the abnormal mitosis of a cell. After a while you’ve got a tumor (it’s a mass of cancer cells). Cancer cells can break away from the tumor and these will end up in the bloodstream. In this way, they can travel to other parts of the body. The process keeps on happening and that’s why it can spread so easily. From there new tumors are formed and this process is called metastasis.

When someone is diagnosed with lung cancer, for example, it means that cancer had its roots in the lungs.

This is cancer explained in a pretty simplistic way. I just learned about this in high school and am certainly no cancer expert.

Ginger and cancer

Its extract is used as an alternative treatment for several forms of cancer.

Raw ginger contains a large amount of substance called 6- gingerol. This substance has been attributed to anti-cancer properties. (study, study)

One study concluded that 2 grams of ginger per day significantly reduced pro-inflammatory signaling molecules in the colon. This study was debunked by a follow-up study. They used individuals with a high risk of colon cancer and they didn’t confirm the findings of the previous study.

It can boost testosterone

Ginger has the ability to boost testosterone. Ginger and turmeric relate to each other so this part can’t be a surprise.

There are five studies that came across when I was researching this matter. I found 3 studies that were conducted with animals and one human study. I’ll share the 3 animal studies today and the human study will be included in the recovery blogpost. This one will launch tomorrow.

Study 1: antioxidant and androgenic effects

So researchers were looking at the antioxidant and androgenic effects of ginger on the reproductive functions of male rats that suffered from diabetes.

They gave a dietary ginger supplement for a period of 30 days. The researchers noticed an increase in testosterone levels after the 30 days period. So, in conclusion, we can state that a dietary supplement of ginger root can improve testosterone levels.

study 2: the effect on spermatogenesis and sperm parameters of rats

They took a group of rats and split them into three different groups. The first group received 50 mg/kg of a ginger extract. The second group received 100 mg/kg and the third group was the placebo group. They took the supplement for a period of 20 days.

The second group had the highest increase in testosterone in comparison to the control group.

There was a significant impact on the luteinizing hormone for the rats. But they did find something else that pretty interesting. They concluded that ginger intake on a daily basis increased total testosterone levels as well as sperm viability and motility.

Study 3: the effect on the male reproductive system of rats

They also found a significant increase in serum testosterone levels.

It’s pretty interesting that researchers saw almost a 100% increase in serum testosterone levels in the rats which received a ginger extract (Zingiber Officinale). This extract has potentially pro fertile properties for male rats but also impacted the testosterone levels directly.

Conclusion

In conclusion: It’s a powerful herb, I suggest you use it to maintain good overall and hormonal health.

Stay tuned because tomorrow I’ll share some of my recovery secrets that I use after a workout or when I’m injured. You’ll never spend a dime on painkillers or anti-inflammatory pills again.

Till next time
